Feeling Embarrassed About Your Feet?

Painting toenails - embarrassed about feet blog

Please don’t be! We understand that showing somebody your feet can feel uncomfortable, particularly if you have been hiding a problem for a while. You may be worried about how they look or smell, or perhaps you haven’t been able to care for them as well as you would like.

Whatever has brought you to us, you will always be treated with kindness, respect and absolutely no judgement. Our only concern is helping your feet feel healthier and more comfortable.

Some of the things people commonly feel embarrassed about include:

  • Foot odour
  • Long, thick or difficult-to-cut toenails
  • Dry, cracked or hard skin
  • Feet that have become difficult to care for
  • Fungal nail or skin infections
  • Verrucae and athlete’s foot
  • Changes in the appearance of their feet

Foot Odour

Foot odour is very common and certainly nothing to feel embarrassed about.

Feet contain lots of sweat glands, and when moisture becomes trapped inside socks and shoes, it can create the perfect environment for bacteria to grow. This is often what causes the smell.

Sometimes, foot odour may also be linked to a fungal infection or another treatable foot condition. We can examine your feet, help identify what is causing the problem and recommend practical steps to improve it.

It may feel like a big issue to you, but to us, it is simply another foot problem that we can help you manage.

Feet That Have Become Difficult to Care For

Looking after our feet is not always as easy as it sounds. As we get older, bending down may become more difficult, our eyesight can change and reaching our toes safely can become a challenge.

Health conditions, reduced mobility, arthritis and the thickness of the toenails can also make routine foot care much harder.

If you are struggling, please don’t feel that you have let your feet go. Many people find themselves in exactly the same position, and asking for a little help can make a real difference.

We regularly help people with:

  • Long or thickened toenails
  • Hard skin and callus
  • Cracked heels
  • Corns
  • Dry or uncomfortable skin
  • Toenails that are difficult to cut safely

We can gently care for your feet and offer advice to help keep them comfortable between appointments. Think of it as essential foot care, with a little well-deserved TLC included.

Foot Infections

Conditions such as athlete’s foot, fungal nails and verrucae can leave people feeling very self-conscious. Some people stop swimming, avoid changing rooms or feel uncomfortable wearing open-toed shoes because they are worried that somebody might notice.

These conditions are common and can affect anyone. Fungal infections thrive in warm, damp environments and can be picked up in shared spaces such as swimming pools, gyms and changing rooms.

Verrucae can sometimes be stubborn, but there are treatment options available. We will assess the area properly, talk you through the choices and recommend the most suitable approach for you.

The sooner you ask for advice, the sooner we can start helping you feel more comfortable and confident.
